2012 Canadian International Farm Show
'Youth in Agriculture' Bursary
The Canadian International Farm Show Youth in Agriculture bursaries, presented by Master Promotions Ltd. in partnership with the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario, are designed to give back to the agricultural community by supporting the development of the next generation of agricultural leaders.
A bursary, worth $2,500.00, will be awarded to a student currently in their first year of an agricultural related program at an accredited Canadian university or college. If you are unsure or it is unclear if your program meets the requirement, your cover letter should include an explanation of how your program relates to pursuing an agricultural-related career.
Applicants must show both academic achievement and financial need, and must not have reached the age of 30 before January 1st, 2012. Strong preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate rural leadership or strong community involvement in organizations like the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario.
Your application should include:
- A completed application form.
- A cover letter outlining your background, involvement in the agricultural community, goals for post-graduation, and how receiving the CIFS bursary would better enable you to pursue your studies.
- An up-to-date resume.
- Two letters of recommendation, including one from a faculty or staff member at your university/college on letterhead. It is recommended the second letter be from an established member of a local farm/rural organization that you are involved in. Both letters must be sent directly to JFAO by March 1, 2012.
- An official transcript showing final marks for all completed first-term courses.
Note: students enrolled in full-year courses will not be penalized if those first term marks are not available.
Qualified applicants may be invited to participate in an interview with a panel of independent judges on the evening of Thursday March 29th, 2012, prior to JFAO’s annual conference at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough, Ontario. Only applicants selected for an interview will be notified. Those who are unable to attend in person may have the option of a telephone interview. All decisions made by the judges will be final.
The winner will be announced at the JFAO annual banquet on Saturday March 31st, 2012, at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough, Ontario. The bursary will be paid by Master Promotions Ltd. directly to the winner’s university/college once proof of registration in second year has been received.
