This summer, eight lucky Junior Farmers are leaving Ontario to explore the world around us. Each has written a pre-exchange write up and will continue to blog during and after their exchange.
I can’t believe it has been almost two months since I was awarded the UK exchange at JFAO March Conference. It is even harder to believe that in just two weeks I will be touched down across the pond!
I have been a part of the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario for 4 years now, starting in Brant County and continuing on now with the University of Guelph club. I just finished my third year in the Food and Agricultural Business co-op program at UofG. My JF involvement includes being Provincial Director for Brant in 2013 and 2014, as well as 4-H Rep in 2013. I am currently the events coordinator in both Brant and UofG. My favourite provincial event is Sing Swing and I helped host Winter Games this past year in Guelph! I am also involved in 4-H in Brant County. I grew up on an organic beef farm outside of Paris, ON, where I enjoy helping out when I am home on weekends and in the spring.
The trip: My flight leaves for Heathrow on May 31, set to arrive in London around lunchtime on the 1st of June. I am spending a week in Wales with past JFAO exchange delegate Anna Mayo, and then heading off to Edinburgh on the 8th of June to start my exchange! I will be transferring over to Northern Ireland on July 5th, and then finishing of my exchange with England and Wales YFC July 27-August 27. I am most looking forward to meeting new people, exploring the land my ancestors lived on, and learning about different farming practices.
There is a travel bug wandering through my veins and I am excited to start this journey ahead of me!
